So that our Spanish school students can participate in the cultural life of Valencia and practice their Spanish outside the classroom, we leave below our suggestions for the next few days.

Vociferio

Vociferio is Valencia’s poetry festival and this year it will be hosted in emblematic cultural spaces, such as the CCCC and the Sala Carme Teatre.
This 11th edition of Vociferio features more than fifty artists who, under the slogan Les Rares, will lead us to reflect critically on the “normal” and the “queer”, through the combination of poetry with other artistic disciplines.
In fact, the programme offers us the perfect opportunity to enjoy poetry in all its formats: readings, performances, stage recitals, screenings, etc.
Specifically, this weekend, the Sala Carme Teatre will host the UpLab Educational Research Laboratory (Saturday at 10am) and the two poetry sessions Rare sessions (Saturday at 7.30pm) and Caras B. (Sunday at 7.30pm).

Antígona

Antigone is Mexican director David Gitán‘s contemporary rewriting of Sophocle’s famous Greek tragedy. One of the best known and most performed in theatres all over the world.
The protagonist Antigone defies the king of Thebes, Creon, with an act of peaceful civil disobedience, that is to say, by skipping the edict prohibiting the burial of her brother.
The dialogue between the citizen of Thebes and her king becomes a profound debate on democracy, civil liberties, politics and power. A confrontation in which Antigone emerges as a symbol of struggle and courage and Creon as a tyrant and vain.

Cordà of Paterna in Plaza del Ayuntamiento

A new event is added to the rich calendar of the Fallas fireworks.
The Cordà is a traditional event of the Paterna’s festivals. It is a firework show with cohetes, femelletes and cohetons that usually closes the town’s Fiestas Mayores on the last Sunday in August.
This show, recently declared an Intangible Cultural Asset of the Valencian Community, consists of more than 70,000 fireworks being fired in less than 20 minutes.
As a celebration of the link between the traditional fiestas of the two towns, this Saturday a small Cordà will be held in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento of Valencia.
In addition, this Sunday 27th, Valencia will officially welcome the Fallas 2022 with the traditional act of the Crida. The event will begin in the Serrano Towers at 7pm and will end with the traditional fireworks show.
Finally, we would like to remind all book lovers that the Antique and Second-hand Book Fair is now open. The fair will take place until March 20th at the usual location (Gran Vía Marqués del Turia) and this year brings together 29 bookshops from the Valencian Community and other parts of Spain.
