Valencia is home for a number of original craft beers and your stay in the city wouldn’t be complete without trying at least some of them. With Mahou, Amstel and San Miguel as a typical beer selection in most bars and restaurants in Valencia, you might have missed jewels like Tyris, La Socarrada, Gènesis or Birra&Blues. What are those and where to try them?
Tyris
Tyris is the first craft beer born in Valencia which offers us a selection of 11 different flavours. Tyris original and VIPA are the classics, although, if you feel like experimenting, you can try the Smoky Porter with a peculiar taste of sponge cake, coffee and chocolate. You can order Tyris in many bars in Ruzafa or in its original pub Tyris on Tap situated next to the Central Market. To be even more authentic, you can visit the Tyris brewery in Riba-Roja del Turia that opens its doors to public every Saturday from 11:30 to 14:00.
La Socarrada
La Socarrada is one of the most well-known craft beers on both national and international levels. Thanks to its specific honey and rosemary flavour, this beer was awarded by the International Taste&Quality Institute of Brussels as one of the best flavours in the world. For only 5 € you can visit the brewery in Xàtiva. The guided tours start every Saturday at 11:00 and the tasting is included in price.
Gènesis
With orange and rice flavours it’s impossible to find more authentic beer than Gènesis. While Gènesis Taronja is made from ecological oranges from local fields, the main ingredient of Gènesis Mediterrànea is Valencian rice that is also used in paella. If you would like to know more about this beer, you can visit its brewery in Favara.
Birra&Blues
The selection of 12 unique flavours, such as grilled pumpkin, banana and licorice or caramel, is a strong reason to try this original beer. Don’t know which flavour to choose? Come to Birra&Blues Valencia (Avinguda de María Cristina, 12).
