Cava
Cava is sparkling Spanish wine elaborated by traditional method. It means that we cannot call any sparkling wine cava, the same as not all sparkling wines are champagne, but only those made in the French region of Champagne. A sparkling wine can be called cava only if it follows the traditional method of production that is extremely similar to the méthode champenoise.
There are many types of cava depending on the duration of fermentation. Cava is called cava only if it completes the minimum of 9 months of fermentation. From 15 months of fermentation the wine is labeled as reserva and 36 or more months are gran reserva. Did you know that almost 95 % of all cava is made in Spanish region of Catalonia?
Agua de Valencia
The most famous alcoholic drink of Valencia is a mix of cava, orange juice, vodka and gin. Agua de Valencia is a perfect use of Valencia’s oranges and a great refreshment during your break on hot sunny afternoons. The recipe is pretty easy if you want to prepare Agua de Valencia at home – just mix 250 ml of orange juice, 2 shots of gin and the same amount of vodka and a 700 ml cava bottle in a big jar.
Sangría and Tinto de Verano
Sangría is the most typical Spanish summer drink that everyone knows. But what’s the difference between Sangría and Tinto de Verano? Sangría is red wine mixed with oranges, lemons and sugar. Tinto de Verano, which literally means ‘summer wine’, is just red wine with gas water and a slice of lemon.
Clara
The most common drink served in every bar is a mixture of beer and lemon soda. You can either make your own clara by mixing beer with lemon fanta or buy it already prepared. Each beer brand call it differently, but the most common names are clara, radler or shandy.
