Summer, as well as the good weather and the warmth, has just arrived. In Valencia that means “terraces and beers”. If you still don’t know what to do in the next few days, take a look at our weekend plans. Our Spanish school El Rincón del Tandem has selected some rooftops in Valencia where to enjoy summer ?
As every Friday, we bring you our suggestions of weekend plans in Valencia. So that our Spanish students can continue learning the language in informal situations and enjoy the cultural life here.
This week the plan is to go to terracitas, and even better, terracitas with views: Rooftops (azoteas). The word azotea comes from the Andalusian Arabic “sutayyah” which means flat roof, and Valencia is plenty of. In order not to waste the potential of these beautiful places, some have been transformed into charming bars or restaurants.
Furthermore, they are also perfect places where to “escape” from the hustle and bustle while enjoying a drink or a tasty dinner.
So, let’s get up on the rooftops to see the city from above. Many hotels open their rooftops to neighbours and tourists. Here we leave you a small list.
- Palau Alameda
Since we are fond of Valencia’s green heart (Turia park), that is one of our favourite rooftops. From the rooftop of Palau Alameda you will have beautiful views of the Alameda and the park. This complex is divided into 3 spaces, one for events, a party room and “El àtic”, the panoramic restaurant.
From our Spanish school we recommend you to enjoy the famous brunch, prepared by chef Nicolás Román.
o Opening hours: from Tuesday to Sunday, from 12 pm a 02:30 am
o Address: Calle de l’Arquitecte Mora, 2
- Terraza SH Place
The Terraza SH, with its fantastic views of the Turia park, is a good place where you can find some relief from the intense Valencian summer heat. High quality burgers, cocktails and good music are the perfect combination to enjoy a wonderful evening. To book, you have to call 963 37 50 37
o Opening hours: from Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:30 pm to 01 am
o Address: Paseo Alameda, 32.
- Terraza 270 grados del Hotel Barceló
If you are passionate about modern architecture, you will know that the city of Valencia offers the magnificent complex of the City of Sciences. From this spectacular terrace you can enjoy a wonderful view of this complex from the heights: an experience that you cannot miss.
Our Spanish school, El Rincón del Tandem, recommends you to visit the rooftop in the night, so you can enjoy the lights of night-time. But if what you like is chilling out in a swimming pool, imagine yourself with a glass of champagne on the terrace, taking a refreshing dip. That is what 270 degrees offers in the morning.
Last but not least, the bar has one of the best drink menus of the whole city. Lastly, we remind you that the rooftop is also available for private parties. ¡Cheers!
o Opening hours: Everyday, from 12 pm to 12 am
o Address: Hotel Barceló Valencia. Av/ de Francia, 11.
- Sky Bar
In the famous Vertical Restaurant, we find this roof terrace that stands out for being so spectacular.
Having tapas while looking at the horizon to enjoy the view of both the City of Sciences and the sea, is priceless. And even better if the menu is included in the Michelin guide, as is the case.
By enjoying the prestigious chef Jorge Andrés’ menu, you will experience the typical market cuisine, inspired by the Valencian tradition and prepared with seasonal products. A gastronomic proposal that has been awarded with a Michelin star in 2008 and two soles of the Repsol guide in 2012.
o Address: Calle Luis García Berlanga 19. Entrada por Hotel Ilunion Aqua, 4 – última planta.
- Terraza VLC Urban Club
At the opposite side of Turia Park we find Expo Hotel Valencia, which offers us a different view of the park.
In this case, we will see the final portion of the park, leading to Parque de Cabecera. On this roof you can taste a wide selection of gourmet quality burgers, combined with the most varied avant-garde cocktails in the city of Valencia.
o Address: Expo Hotel Valencia. Avenida Pío XII number 4.
- Ateneo Sky Bar
Finally, if what you like is the city centre and the urban and party atmosphere of Carmen neighbourhood, you can’t miss this last proposal.
In the famous building of the Ateneo mercantile of Valencia, located in the city hall square, we will enjoy a roof terrace with the best views of the town hall and part of the district of Ciutat Vella.
Having a coffee, a juice, or a cocktail (the menu offers more than 30 gin tonic and vodka tonic) will be an unforgettable experience.
Lastly, it is worth mentioning the nice atmosphere, created by with chill-out, soul, funky and deep-house music.
o Opening hours: from Wednesday to Sunday, from 12 am to 8:30 pm
o Address: Calle de Moratín, 12.
