Let’s start September from fresh by learning Spanish. These 3 funny Spanish words are a great way to begin!

Today we start our blog of El Tandem School, where we will provide you with various information about the Spanish Culture, language and of course food, which kind of blog would it be without posts about delicious Spanish dishes? The purpose of this blog will be not only to help students of our school but also to teach curious people some interesting facts about this beautiful country. So without any further ado, let’s dive in and learn about it.

This first post brings a funny group of words called homographs. Homographs is a category of words that have different meanings even if their spelling and pronounciation are the same. When studying Spanish it’s very common to find homograph words and you have to be careful to give a context while using them to make other people understand which meaning you’re referring to. I’ts funny to see how many words can be used to refer to totally different things and they’re easier to remember once you distinguish the meaning.

Mi gato esta en lista para ir a Lima. Mi nieta es una niña muy lista, sabe ya usar el gato y cada mañana toma agua y lima porque sabe que es saludable.

Lima is a Spanish Word that can be

A citric fruit.  Example: La lima es buena para la salud porque contiene vitamina C.

A rasp.   Example: ¿Me puedes dar una lima para limar esta mesa?

Nail file.  Example: ¿Tienes una Lima? Se me rompió una uña

The capital of Peru.   Example: ¿Fuiste alguna vez a Lima?

Gato

Cat.     Example: Este es mi gato, se llama Jerry

Jack.    Example: Es siempre útil tener un gato en el coche.

Tick-tack-toe (game noughts and crosses)    Example: Mi hijo gana siempre al juego del gato y el ratón.

Lista

Smart girl.    Example:  Ella me gusta, es una chica muy lista.

List.    Example: Haz una lista de las cosas que tenemos que comprar.
