The Goya awards ceremony is one of the most important annual events in modern Spanish culture. This year’s gala was held at the FIBES Congress and Exhibition Center in Seville where they announced the winners of the Goya 2019. Some of our students in the Spanish course were following the entire nomination process.
Saturday February 2 took place the 33rd edition of the most important film awards in Spain. Thus, the presenters Andreu Buenafuente and Silvia Abril announced the winners of the Goya 2019 in Seville. The complete list of winners can be found on the website of the Goya Awards. Here we present the most interesting results of this year.

The best address: Rodrigo Sorogoyen for “The Kingdom”
The best original song: “This is the moment” of Coque Malla for “Champions”
The best leading actor: Antonio de la Torre for “The Kingdom”
The best actress protagonist: Susi Sánchez for “The disease of Sunday”
The best animated film: “One more day with life”
The best documentary film: “The silence of others”
The best European film: “Cold War”
The best Spanish-American movie: “Roma”
Summary of the gala
Presenters Andreu Buenafuente and Silvia Abril followed the best Spanish television traditions and directed the gala in a very funny way. One of the most memorable moments of the night was the performance of Rosalía and her version of Me Quedodo contigo from Los Chunguitos. Likewise, all the spectators were thrilled with the speech of Jesús Vidal, the revelation actor of “Champions”. The actor, interpreter with visual impairment, spoke of the importance of visibility and diversity when receiving prizes.
As for the winners, the Goya 2019 award was for the film “Champions” by the director of Javier Fesser. In such a way that, this drama took 3 of the 11 prizes to which it aspired. In addition, “The Kingdom” of Sorogoyen achieved 7 of the 13 candidatures to which he aspired, thus being one of the winners of this year. In third place is the drama “Carmen y Lola” by Arantxa Echevarría with 2 of the 8 prizes to which it was nominated.
